December's Unmissable Book of the Month:

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

A Captivating Book Review and an Essential Book Recommendation

Only one more month until Christmas and don’t know about you but I am feeling the pressure to get everything done. I had hoped I was on top of my reading list but this month has been more busier than ever. I have been trying to get my website up and running smoothly and this has been proving more difficult, although enjoyable. However, it has taken me away from reading. But the book club of the month for December 2022 is Daughters Of The Famine Road by Bridget Walsh.

I am wondering what all of you have been reading in December. What was your Book Clubs Choice of book and why? What did you think about it? Would you recommend it?

Please let me know if you thought a book is worth shouting about it so we can all read it.

Love Alis

Title: Daughters of the Famine Road

Author: Bridget Walsh

Genre Historical, Family

About book: When they meet, Jane and Annie have much in common. As young Irish women in the 1840s, they both know the value of family, home and friendship. Even more importantly, they understand the need to survive against a backdrop of famine, disease and cruel colonial rule. With Ireland crumbling around them and peril at every turn, can these tenacious women overcome the arc of history and create a better life?

My thoughts: This book was chosen for our monthly book club meeting and is about the time in Ireland during the famine. The book brings to life the huge struggles and consequences that many families had to deal with during the 1840s. The author especially focuses in on 2 young girls and follows their plight, journey, and choices they made before there were any government interventions or handouts and with absent landlords that placed money over people. However, the two main characters Annie and Jane are determined to shine through their suffering and show kindness to those they meet. In the end I am left wondering what other adventures they will meet and I am sure the following 2 books will reveal more. A worthwhile read from a new author.
