February's Remarkable Book of the Month: An Engaging Review and Must-Read

Updated: Dec 9, 2023

It’s February and Valentine’s day so what better book could I choose to read for my book of the month other than a romance book. I was given a subscription to a Box of Stories for my Birthday present last year by my son and his wife. A surprise box with undiscovered books arrives at my door periodically. You can discover new books and authors that is delivered one box at a time. What a brilliant present as it’s been a gift that keeps on giving and for a book lover there is nothing better.

What Might Have Been by Holly Miller was one of the books I received and it has been on my shelf waiting for me to catch up. So far, a book I am glad that came my way as I loved it.

This book also fits my reading challenge for the month – To read a romantic fiction book.

Let me know what you are reading and why you chose the book you did?

Love Alis x

Title: What Might Have Been

Author: Holly Miller

Genre: Romance

Publisher: Hodder & Stauton

Date of Publication: 2022

Format: Hard Back book given to me as a present

Star Rating: 4**** – I liked it a lot, and recommend.

About book: Lucy's life is at a crossroads. She's just walked out of her unrewarding job and has no idea about her next step: use her savings to pursue her dream of becoming a writer, or move to London to try and revive her career? It almost seems like fate that on that same night she meets Caleb, a stranger in a bar, and runs into Max, the one-time love of her life. Should Lucy stay in the seaside town she grew up in, and in doing so, get to know Caleb better? Or should she go to London and reconnect with Max again after he broke her heart a decade ago? It's just one decision - but sometimes one decision can change the course of your whole life . . . WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN is a sweeping and unforgettable novel for anyone who has ever believed in destiny and soulmates - or paused to wonder what your life might look like if you'd made a different choice.

My thoughts: I don’t usually purchase pure romance novels myself. But this book was given to me as a present through a gift of a book subscription.

I thought I would choose it as our Book of the Month and read it now as it was Valentines, and I am glad I did. I loved the two sides to this story running parallel all the way through. A bit like ‘Sliding Doors’, what would have happened if I had chosen one path or another. The two paths ran alongside beautifully together. The writing was clever, thoughtful, and surprising. A very moving love story. I did at times get frustrated with Lucy but could fully understand her reasoning by the end. A truly believable story.
