The author's vivid descriptions breathe life into the charming villages, the azure Mediterranean coastline, and the rich culture of the region. From the very beginning, I was transported to the sun-drenched landscapes and found myself immersed in the book's world. The protagonist, Maggie Newberry, is a refreshing departure from the typical sleuth. Her relatable personality, complete with flaws and uncertainties, makes her journey even more captivating. As Maggie finds herself entangled in a complex web of secrets and deceptions following a shocking murder, readers are invited to join her in piecing together the puzzle. Title: The 19th Christmas
Author: James Patterson
Genre: Mystery, Thriller, Suspense
Series: 19-23 Women’s Murder Club Thriller
Date Published: 2019
Book Length: 360
Format: Kindle I purchased myself
Star Rating: 5***** I loved it, and highly recommend.
About Book: Sergeant Lindsay Boxer is looking forward to spending time with her family over the holidays. But when she receives a tip-off that the biggest heist ever to hit San Francisco is being planned for Christmas Day, everything changes. The architect of the ambitious attack unleashes chaos across the city, laying traps and false alarms to distract Lindsay and the SFPD from his ultimate goal. As time runs out, will Lindsay be able to save the people of San Francisco from a Christmas they'd never forget?
My Thoughts: The holiday season just got a whole lot more intriguing with "19th Christmas" by James Patterson. As a dedicated fan of both mystery novels and festive cheer, even though it is the summer, it feels like it’s the winter. I couldn't resist delving into this latest instalment of the Women's Murder Club series. While the title may evoke images of cosy celebrations, this book is anything but ordinary, delivering a thrilling mix of suspense and holiday spirit. The narrative welcomes readers back into the lives of San Francisco's Women's Murder Club, a group of friends and professionals dedicated to solving some of the city's most perplexing crimes. This time, as Christmas approaches, a wave of seemingly unrelated cases unfolds. The seamless blend of holiday festivities and a complex web of mysteries kept me hooked from the first page. Patterson's signature short chapters and fast-paced writing style contribute to the book's compulsive readability. The story alternates between the perspectives of the various characters, adding layers to both the investigation and their personal lives. The main characters - Lindsay, Claire, Yuki, and Cindy - are as endearing as ever, and their camaraderie adds a heart warming touch to the book. The murder cases themselves are intricate puzzles that demand the Women's Murder Club's unique combination of skills to solve. Patterson skilfully weaves red herrings and unexpected twists throughout the plot, ensuring that even the most seasoned mystery reader will be kept guessing. However, I did feel that certain aspects of the resolution were somewhat rushed, preventing a full exploration of the potential complexity. The holiday backdrop lends an extra layer of warmth to the book, as the characters navigate the joys and challenges of the season while pursuing justice. The city of San Francisco comes alive with its festive decorations and bustling streets, providing a cozy contrast to the dark mysteries being unravelled. "19th Christmas" offers a satisfying blend of suspense, holiday cheer, and the enduring bond of friendship. While it may not be the most intricate mystery in the Women's Murder Club series, it certainly delivers the pulse-pounding excitement and engaging characters that fans have come to expect from James Patterson. So, if you're seeking a dose of intrigue to balance your holiday festivities, this book is a perfect choice to curl up with whatever time of year it is.

Title: The Book of Beginnings
Author: Sally Page Genre: Romance Humour Publisher: Harper Collins Date Published: 2023 Book Length: 416 Format: E book supplied by Net Galley in return for an honest review Star Rating: 5***** I loved it and highly recommend.
About Book: Jo Sorsby is hiding from her past when she agrees to run her uncle’s beloved stationery shop. Glimpsing the lives of her customers between the warm wooden shelves, as they scribble little notes and browse colourful notebooks, distracts her from her bruised heart.
When she meets Ruth, a vicar running from a secret, and Malcolm, a septuagenarian still finding himself, she suddenly realizes she isn’t alone.
My Thoughts: This was a book I received from Net Galley in return for an honest review and the second book I have read by Sally Page. The book, right from the start gives you a warm fuzzy feeling even though it starts off about love lost. The writing from Sally Page shows the redeeming features of human nature to be kind. Page writes so descriptively that you feel you are with the characters and therefore want to keep on reading to know what happens next. The Protagonist Jo Sorsby is a great character, and all her flaws and characteristics come out slowly, but they are written in a way that is believable. However, my favourite character is Malcolm Bussell an ongoing character who has more charm than people initially give him credit for. But Sally's description is endearing and makes you want to get to know him.
The Book of Beginnings made me laugh out loud in places and very few books do that. I loved the interactions between all of the characters. The hope, friendship and grief are intertwined in their life stories and you begin to route for each of them in turn It showed how people can enrich each others lives.
In conclusion, a lovely warm book that was enjoyable to read which left me having faith in human nature where interactions and friendships enrich others. Another really enjoyable book written by Sally Page and one I would recommend.
Title: Chemistry
Author: Robert Hodgson Genre: Humour Date Published: 2012 Book Length: 330 Format: Kindle I purchased myself Star Rating: 4**** I liked it a lot and recommend.
About Book: Francis is clever, successful, and really rather nice, but he has a problem. He has no idea how women think. He doesn't know when they love him or why they sometimes hate him. So, he turns to science for the answer and develops his own theory of how men and women react with each other. His theory guides him through tortured adolescence and into perplexing manhood but fails to predict the outcome of his intense, passionate but mostly hapless relationships. His quest to find the ultimate "oxygen" woman combines small triumphs with an unending litany of catastrophes until he is finally faced with the awful truth. It’s a story about how men try to make sense of women, and mostly fail. Francis's story brings together the belief systems of all the people in his life and compels him to choose between them. It forces him to confront the question of whether his own theory is based on scientific rigor or is no better than the superstitions that he so despises. It offers an alternative view of the concept of manhood in the 21st century and examines the conflicting patterns of life’s seeming predictability and spontaneity in a funny, thoughtful and at times, cringingly embarrassing story. Oh…and it’s a comedy. "Does for science what Nick Hornby's High-Fidelity did for music."
My Thoughts: I chose "Chemistry" by Robert Hodgson as part of my reading challenge to read a book about Science Fiction. This remarkable book took me on a journey through the intricate web of chemical reactions, elements, and compounds, unravelling the mysteries that shape the very foundation of our universe. Through clear explanations and relatable examples, I was introduced to the fundamental principles of chemistry, making this book an excellent choice for both beginners and enthusiasts with a touch of humour and real-life anxieties through trying to traverse the complexities of love and relationships. One of the book's standout features is its comprehensive coverage of the subject matter. Hodgson navigates through the periodic table, chemical reactions, and the history of key discoveries, ensuring that no stone is left unturned. From the early alchemists' quests to modern-day breakthroughs, you can gain a holistic understanding of the evolution of chemistry, but don’t be fooled this is a book that anyone can pick up and think about how Science can impact our real lives. "Chemistry" doesn't merely present theoretical concepts; it brings chemistry to life through its emphasis on real-world applications. Hodgson illustrates how chemistry influences everyday life, from the composition of household products to the intricacies of cooking and food preservation. This practical approach enhances the reader's appreciation for the subject's relevance in the world around us. The book is generously adorned with visually engaging aids and illustrations. Complex chemical structures and reactions are simplified through diagrams, enhancing comprehension, and making it easier for readers to visualize the concepts being discussed.
