Aprils Reading Challenge: Exploring New Genres and Authors

Where are the months going, I say this as we enter the second quarter of the year, I am happy to say that my reading challenge is still going strong. For April, I set out to diversify my reading list by including works by authors from different countries and cultures. I was excited to explore new voices and perspectives, and I am pleased to share my thoughts and recommendations on the books that I read this month. April was a month full of rich and thought-provoking reading experiences. Join me as I reflect on the books that have left a lasting impression on me this month through my reading challenge.

My chosen books from my reading challenge in April 2023 were:

  • Young Adult – The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, I loved the film and have wanted to read the book for a long time

  • A Book picked based on the front cover – Broken Dreams by Aditya Banerjee, I am very often swayed inot buying a book by its cover

  • An Author you love – A Bitter Remedy by Alis Hawkins, one of my go to authors

  • Book you own but have not read – Those Who Know by Alis Hawkins

I am enjoying choosing books based on a variety of categories. It can definitely surprise you in many ways, some good and some not so good, but each book whether you love them or not, can bring a great discussion to the table at your book club meeting. I always like to remember that a lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into writing a book, and although it may not be a favourite of mine someone will love it.

Let me know what book you are reading that has changed your mind about something, or opened your eyes to something new?

Love Alis x

As Garfield was an eminent MP and the investigation is high profile, it's headed by Cassie's new boss, DI Harbinder Kaur. The trouble is, Cassie can't shake the feeling that one of her old friends has killed again.

Is Cassie right, or was Garfield murdered by one of his political cronies? It's in Cassie's interest to skew the investigation so that it looks like the latter and she seems to be succeeding.

On the hustings, Harry and John are called to examine the body of Nicholas Rowland, a pioneering schoolteacher whose death may not be the accident it first appeared. What was Rowland’s real relationship with his eccentric patron, Miss Gwatkyn? And why does Harry’s rival for the post of coroner deny knowing him?
