While reading books for my Reading Challenge in 2024 and scrolling through my shelves recently, I noticed something interesting: I’d only read a handful of books that begin with the letter E. So far, I've come across just three books in this category, and they all happen to fall into thriller or romance genres—an exciting mix for any book lover! I thought it would be fun to keep track of books starting with 'E' especially for those of you who do love a Reading Challenge, and to share this list with other readers who may also be on the hunt for unique titles.
This post will be a growing list, updated throughout the year as I find more captivating ‘E’ titles to read. And I’d love to hear your suggestions, too! Have you read any great books beginning with ‘E’? Let me know in the comments, and be sure to check back as I continue to add new reads.

.
My Thoughts: End of October" by Lawrence Wright is a gripping and eerily prescient thriller that takes readers on a harrowing journey through a global pandemic. It did feel a little close to home given what has happened in the world recently, but I felt I needed to read it. The story unfolds with chilling precision, following Dr. Henry Parsons, an epidemiologist, as he races against time to unravel the mystery of a deadly virus that's spreading rapidly around the world. Wright's meticulous research and attention to detail create a sense of realism that is both captivating and unnerving.
Set in a not-so-distant future, "End of October" explores the devastating consequences of a viral outbreak on a global scale. The narrative delves into the complexities of human nature, exposing the best and worst of humanity when faced with an existential threat. The characters are well-developed, and their struggles and emotions add depth to the story, especially the relationship between Henry Parsons the main protagonist and his wife Jill and their children.
While the book is undeniably thought-provoking and expertly written, it may hit too close to home for some readers, especially considering the real-world events of recent times. The bleak and intense atmosphere may not be everyone's cup of tea, and some might find it a bit too heavy for escapism. However, I enjoyed reading the book including the behind the scenes discussions and events that help to work out a solution as fast as they possibly could, for those who enjoy thought-provoking and immersive pandemic thrillers, "End of October" offers a compelling and unforgettable reading experience that resonates long after the last page. I must say I loved it and recommend you reading it.

About Book: When Amy Ashton's world fell apart eleven years ago, she started a collection. Just a few keepsakes of happier times: some honeysuckle to remind herself of the boy she loved, a chipped china bird, an old terracotta pot . . . Things that others might throw away, but to Amy, represent a life that could have been. Now her house is overflowing with the objects she loves - soon there'll be no room for Amy at all. But when a family move in next door, a chance discovery unearths a mystery, and Amy's carefully curated life begins to unravel. If she can find the courage to face her past, might the future she thought she'd lost still be hers for the taking?
My Thoughts: I read this book in 2 sittings, it was so captivating I didn’t want to put it down. The story was told through two eras. The first era made sense of the second as the story unfolded. And was told brilliantly. The characters each and everyone of them, played their part. Although, my favourite character was Charles - the child from next door, he was lovable, endearing and very insightful. The story flowed with making you want more. I don’t know how I didn’t take a peek at the back of the book to see how it ended. A great read about love, hope and friendship that you will not want to put down.

My Thoughts An Eye for an Eye by M.J. Arlidge is a hard-hitting crime thriller that grips you from the first page. Tackling an emotional and challenging subject, Arlidge presents the story through multiple perspectives, including the police force, probation officers, former criminals, and victims' families. This multifaceted approach adds depth, creating a uniquely compelling thriller.
A note to readers: it's worth checking the trigger warnings, as the themes can be intense. However, Arlidge’s bold, thought-provoking writing style makes each difficult moment purposeful in building the story’s complexity. The brisk pacing and short chapters add layers of suspense, pulling you in as tension builds with every page.
In conclusion, An Eye for an Eye is a gripping, fast-paced thriller that’s both daring and engaging, with a narrative that keeps you thinking long after the final page.
